What is it like working for ARA? ARA staff say…

Counsellor
“Joining ARA gave me the opportunity to grow as a Counsellor.  I found I had a natural instinct for addictions counselling and ARA gave me the framework to build around this raw ability. I love group work, enjoy building positive relationships with clients, witnessing amazing growth and courage, seeing people turn lives around and fulfil their potential.  To be part of that is something very special.”

Senior Administrator
“I have been the first face or voice to many callers and visitors linking people with the right services to support their needs. It’s a great responsibility to respond to people’s needs but it is satisfying to be able to provide information and to be in contact with clients as they progress through their recovery process.

I have seen many developments in the services we provide and have continued to learn new skills and information through my time at ARA. I have been promoted to Senior Administrator giving me greater responsibility and the opportunity to develop line management and supervisory skills.”

Young People’s Project Officer
“I came to work for ARA so I could specialise in helping young people with substance misse issues.  As well as one-to-one work there’s lots of opportunity to provide education workshops for colleges and schools. Although there is plenty of structure and support at ARA, I also find there is freedom to personalise the work.  I know ARA will continue to support me to develop new ways of working with the young people in Bristol who most need our help.”
