ARA commissioner news

ARA launches its Community Recovery Service
On 1 August we launched our Community Recovery Service in Bristol. In partnership with Safer Bristol we have successfully restructured the funding of existing residential and community services to focus on addressing unmet local need. The changes will result in a doubling of the number of places in community based structured treatment and an increase in  the number of places we have in supported housing. As a result ARA will be playing an even more significant role in addressing need in Bristol.

Contact Alex Pearce, Director of Treatment Services, to find out more about how this service could be delivered in your area (tel 0117 9300282).

South Wales Gambling Pilot
Our new venture in South Wales to identify and address problem gambling is gathering steam. ARA has secured funding  over 3 years from the Responsible Gambling Fund to work with agencies in South Wales to develop early interventions services and initiatives as part of the  Gambling Risk and Harm Minimisation (GRaHM) pilot programme.

The service will  be launched early in 2012 in conjunction with four partner agencies Citizens Advice Bureau in Newport, West Glamorgan Council on Alcohol and Drug Addiction in Swansea, Pen Yr Enfys in Cardiff and 3Gs Development Trust in Merthyr Tydfil.

Improvements to our Alcohol Misuse Service in Bristol
Working in conjunction with Safer Bristol and Bristol Primary Care Trust we have made some significant changes to our  Alcohol Misuse Service in Bristol with the start of a new six week Structured Workshop Programme. The programme has been designed to support dependent drinkers into recovery and  twelve topic based workshops have been designed by the staff team. Each morning , afternoon and evening programme has a maximum of ten clients and each client has 1:1 counselling every week. Engagement from clients so far has been really good and the clients are responding well.
