Support for young people with alcohol or substance misuse concerns.

 

 

ONE TO ONE SUPPORT

 

As part of the ‘Opening Doors’ early intervention service we offer support to young people in Bristol who have problems relating to emerging alcohol and drug use, and to those young people who have concerns about their friends’, parents' or carers' drug and alcohol use.

The target groups for this service are those young people who are affected by substance use but who are not in contact with any drug support service. A screening tool is used to enable workers to identify young people who are at risk and appropriate support is then offered. This can include giving information and advice relating to substance use, brief interventions and motivational support, referral to agencies offering diversionary activities or, for young people with more complex needs and problematic use, referral for treatment.

Young people can self-refer and we also accept referrals from professionals and family members etc. who are concerned about a young person's substance misuse.

FREE EDUCATION WORKSHOPS

 

We also provide interactive education workshops on drugs and alcohol in Colleges and other Youth Projects.  Ideally working with groups of approx. 10-25 young people and their Tutor/Worker, we can provide a trio of approx. 1 hour interactive education workshops on alcohol, cannabis and other drugs.  Where appropriate we can also offer a tailored series of sessions focussing on just alcohol, drugs and mental health etc.

 

FREE TRAINING FOR PROFESSIONALS

 

In addition ARA  provides specialist training sessions and workshops for tutors and youth workers on delivering substance misuse education.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch and arrange education workshops for your tutor groups, or to refer any young people who may benefit from one-to-one sessions.
